Our Mission

MOT Checker exists to make official UK vehicle MOT information freely accessible to every driver. We believe that information provided by a government agency — in this case, the DVSA — should be easy to find, easy to understand, and completely free to access. We built this tool because the official interfaces can be clunky, and many commercial alternatives charge for data that is, at its source, free.

Who We Are

We are the MOT Checker Editorial Team — a small group of automotive writers, data engineers, and web developers based in the United Kingdom. Our team has experience in vehicle data, automotive journalism, and web development. We are not affiliated with the DVLA, DVSA, or any UK Government body. We access MOT data via the DVSA's authorised API programme.

Our Data Source

Every MOT status and history result displayed on this site comes directly from the DVSA MOT History API. This is the same data source used by the official gov.uk/check-mot-status service. We do not supplement, alter, or cache this data in ways that could make it stale. Results are returned in real time.

Editorial Standards

Our guides and articles are written by the editorial team and reviewed for accuracy against official DVSA, DVLA, and UK Government publications. We cite primary sources (official government guidance, DVSA statistics, UK legislation) wherever possible. We do not publish speculative or unverified information about vehicle data. All pages carry a 'Last Updated' date and are reviewed at least annually.

Monetisation Disclosure

MOT Checker is a free service funded by display advertising and affiliate partnerships. Where we link to third-party products or services (such as HPI checks, car insurance, or breakdown cover), we may receive a commission if you click through and make a purchase. This does not affect our editorial independence — we only recommend products we believe are genuinely useful to our users. Pages containing affiliate links are clearly labelled.

Privacy Commitment

We do not store the registration numbers you check. We do not build profiles of vehicle owners. We do not sell data to third parties. Our analytics collect only aggregated, anonymised traffic data (via privacy-respecting analytics). See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Contact Us

For editorial enquiries, corrections, or data accuracy concerns, please use our contact form. We aim to respond within two business days. For DVSA data accuracy issues (i.e., the DVSA database holds incorrect information), you will need to contact the DVSA directly via gov.uk.

Corrections Policy

If we publish factually incorrect information in a guide or article, we will correct it promptly and note the correction at the bottom of the page. We take accuracy seriously and welcome corrections from readers, automotive professionals, and DVSA staff.
