Who We Are

MOT Checker ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at https://freemotchecker.uk. We provide a free UK MOT status checking service using official DVSA data.

Data We Collect

We collect minimal data. Specifically: aggregated, anonymised analytics data (page views, country of visit, browser type — no personal identifiers); error logs for debugging purposes (IP addresses retained for up to 7 days then deleted); and email addresses submitted via the MOT reminder form (stored only for the purpose of sending the requested reminder, then deleted).

We do not store the vehicle registration numbers you check. We do not build profiles of users or vehicles. We do not use third-party tracking pixels or social media tracking.

Cookies

We use a single session cookie to maintain your preferences during a visit. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking cookies, or third-party analytics cookies that report to external platforms. If you have enabled an ad-blocker or privacy extension, the site will still function fully.

Third Parties

We query the DVSA MOT History API to return MOT data. This query is made server-side; your IP address is not shared with the DVSA. We may display advertising via Google AdSense or similar platforms — these may set their own cookies subject to their own privacy policies. Affiliate links to third-party services (HPI, car insurance providers) are clearly labelled; clicking them takes you to the third party's site subject to their privacy terms.

Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data we hold. As we hold minimal personal data (only email addresses submitted for reminders), most rights requests can be fulfilled immediately. Email [email protected] with any request.

Data Retention

Reminder email addresses are deleted after the reminder is sent. Server logs are purged after 7 days. Anonymised analytics data may be retained indefinitely in aggregate form.

Changes to This Policy

We will post any changes to this policy on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
